Frequently Asked Questions About Registering to Vote

Register to vote as a Democrat to participate in the September 2009 primary!

New York State is a closed primary state, and this election will be decided in the Democratic primary. That means you need to be registered as a Democrat if you want to vote for Brad!

Are You in the 39th District?

Are You Registered Correctly?

  • Not sure which party you are in or where you are registered? You can confirm your registration online.
  • If you moved since you last registered, you need to register at your current address. File a "change of address" registration (see below for how to get a form).

How to Register

  • The registration deadline for the 2009 primary election is early August 2009.
  • You can pick up a voter registration card at libraries, post offices, and most government agencies.
  • You request a form in the mail by calling 1-866-VOTE-NYC.
  • You can fill out a PDF form, print it out, and mail it to the Board of Elections.

How to Vote

  • Find out where your polling place is.
  • If this is your first time voting in NY State and you registered by mail, bring a photo ID with you to the polls. If your ID does not have your current address, also bring proof of residency like a phone bill or bank statement with your current address.
  • You do not need to bring the card the Board of Elections sends you in the mail to the polls, but it is helpful for remembering where the poll site is.
